Lebap region
Lebap velayat (region) is located in the eastern part of the country and covers an area of 93.7 thousand km2. It ranks third in terms of population, accounting for 20.4% of the country’s total population.
Lebap velayat is home to historical monuments. Of these, the city of Kerki is an ancient city dating back to earlier times. A unique monument of medieval architecture known as Dayahatyn is located north of Turkmenabat, not far from the left bank of the Amu Darya. It served as an important strategic and trade point along the main route of the Great Silk Road across the left bank of the river.
In the eastern part of the province is the Koytendag Nature Reserve has many beautiful places. There are more than 800 species of different plants in this reserve. Two-thirds of them are medicinal herbs and plants. Koytendag is the highest mountain in the country. The Ayrybaba rim, which is 3139 meters above sea level, is also located in Koytendag. It has numerous wonders that attracts the attention of world travelers. This is because the tourists here can find the blind coyote fish living in the underground lake in the Kars valley east of Garlyk town, the Gulshirin caves, which are up to 50 kilometers long, the Arnap forest, which is over a century old, and other wonders of nature.
Given the high pace of economic growth, the road supply system is being developed. In recent years, a number of railway and highway bridges across the Amu Darya have been built and commissioned. The International Airport, which has a capacity of 500 passengers per hour is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for its construction features which are of high quality.
One of the fastest growing industries is the power sector. Large-scale projects have been implemented to improve the efficiency of this field. The oil and gas sector play a key role in the development of the industry. The capacity of the light industry in the province is also steadily increasing. The products produced at the Turkmenabat sewing factory, the cotton spinning mill in Seydi, Danev district, and the newly renovated cotton spinning mill in Turkmenabat are in great demand not only in our country, but also abroad. In the year declared as "Turkmenistan - the Heart of the Great Silk Road", the “Amul-Hazar” International Auto rally started off in Amul and ended in Avaza.
